Repainting Old Machines the old way
The paint has held up rather well but the rust is coming through due to no primer. Its a nice flat black but looks to me to be a little better shade than a commercially available flat black. I think I will paint a small stationary steam engine this way, and then keep it wiped down with an oily rag to bring out a bit of a sheen.

Just got an old Index mill that is coated with a matrix of hardened cutting oil (?) and chips. Looking for the least invasive method of removing this coating as I intend to keep the old paint job intact, so I don't want to use a metal scraper/putty knife. Tried WD40 and then cleaning with industrial alcohol and paper towels.
